What a rise would add.

A rise of 0.1 points adds 0.1 to the percentage itself: 1.40% becomes 1.50%. With the same visits and average order value, that adds up over a year. Change your figures above and these follow.

Arithmetic on your figures, not a forecast: it assumes visits and average order value stay the same.

Find your leak.

Most orders pass four steps: a visit, an add to cart, reaching checkout and paying. One rate can't say which step loses shoppers. Add two more counts and each step is divided by the one before.

In your Shopify admin: Analytics > Reports > Conversion rate breakdown, for the same month. Use the session counts, not the percentages.

Likely leak: the product page.

Start with the product page. Find your most-visited product pages, work out each one's add-to-cart rate, and open the weakest on your phone.

Each step is compared with where the bottom 20% of Shopify stores sit, from Littledata's figures for add to cart and checkout completion. They come from Google Analytics, so treat them as a rough guide.

How to calculate conversion rate.

Divide orders by sessions over the same period, then multiply by 100.

Conversion rate = orders ÷ sessions × 100

A store with 140 orders from 10,000 sessions in a month: 140 ÷ 10,000 = 0.014, and 0.014 × 100 = 1.4%.

The revenue figures follow from there. Each extra point of conversion rate is 1 more order in every 100 visits, so +0.3 points on 10,000 visits is 30 more orders. At an $80 average order value, that's $2,400 a month and $28,800 a year, with no more traffic.

Where to find the numbers in Shopify

  1. In your admin, go to Analytics > Reports and open Conversion rate breakdown.
  2. Set a whole month that starts on or after 24 September 2026, when Shopify finished changing how it counts sessions.
  3. Take Sessions and Sessions that completed checkout. Average order value is on the Analytics overview for the same dates.

Common questions.

About the formula, Shopify's numbers and what the calculator does with yours.

What's the formula for conversion rate?

Orders divided by sessions, times 100. A store with 140 orders from 10,000 sessions converts at 1.4%. Use the same period for both, ideally a whole month.

Should I use orders or sessions that completed checkout?

Use sessions that completed checkout if you want to match Shopify. That's what its conversion rate counts, and one session with two orders counts once. Orders give a close figure and are easier to find.

Why doesn't my result match Shopify's?

Usually because the inputs differ. Shopify counts sessions that completed checkout, not orders, and it changed how it counts sessions between 21 and 23 September 2026. Use figures from after 24 September 2026 for both, and the same date range.

What's a good conversion rate for a Shopify store?

Littledata puts the middle Shopify store (the median) at 1.4% and the top 20% above 2.7%, across 426 stores from July to October 2026. It varies by industry, from 0.9% for home and furniture to 2.8% for beauty and skincare. Your own figure over time is the better guide: how to find which step is leaking shows how to read it.

What does “+0.3 points” mean?

It adds 0.3 to the percentage itself: 1.4% becomes 1.7%. That's a rise of about a fifth on 1.4%, which is why small-looking changes add up.

Do you see the numbers I enter?

No. The calculation runs in your browser and the figures never leave it. We only record that the calculator was used, not what was typed.
